Retro Newbie
Hello all.
I am shopping for a vintage GT Zaskar but do not know what year and/or size I would need. I am 5'7" tall.
Can someone direct me to size charts for these bikes?
Thanks very much and have a great day.

an 18" or M as they were sized tho a small or 16" would fit too
depends if you like a small frame or a larger one ,old backs and all that

ZASKAR

The other potential wrinkle is that I want to build this bike up as a fully rigid.
I bought this GT fork which I hope to use.
Do you think this woukd work on both the 16.5 0r the 18?
Thanks and have a great day.

I'm 5'7" (30" leg) and ride a 16" Zaskar, fits perfect, i'd consider an 18" too big (both in standover and stretch).

For reference GT sizes were 14.5, 16, 18, 20 measured from the centre of the bottom bracket to the centre of the top tube.

Here's my 16", it's a 94 with 91 style decals, you can see the 16" has a slope on the top tube (end points to the top of the rear tyre), on an 18" the top tube is nearly level, frame design changed slightly in 95 and gained a fatter downtube with an extra gusset.

Those forks you have will be perfect, steerer on my bike is 7.5 inches so at 8" those forks will work with some spacers or trim the tube down slightly.

Super-nice bike Hendrix (Thought you left us in 1970 ?!) Have you asked the bike if it might love an extended stay in Southern California?
I found some sweet 18 incher's but I might like the idea of the 16 also. I'm looking to set this up with cruiser tires, and run it as a retro-urban street machine but trail riding is always a possibility. Size on the road seems not as critical as with off road use, but a smaller and better-handling more nimble bike would be cool. My 8 & 9 year old kids both love old-school bikes as well and the smaller size would put them on it sooner. (Please refer to our partial resto of vintage 24 inchers)
Thanks for your post and have a great day.

The earlier 16.5" frames measured closer to 17.5-18" from BB center to top of seat tube.

If you can, try before you buy. :)

also look here, may have some geometries, plus you will be able to figure out what year you might be looking at (assuming stickers haven't been changed, or in fact the the stickers are put on a completely different bike)
