Suntour XC Pro pedals

Suntour XC Pro Grease Guard Wheels, I was thinking of buying these until I read that they're not compatible with Shimano cassettes..
Which is what made me go with Shimano XT groupset for my next build (1991 Zaskar). The price of Suntour XC Pro was quite off putting too, which is a shame really.
https://ebay.us/m/GMSIpK though these wheels seemed reasonably priced for what they are.
So still on the look out for Shimano Deore XT (M730/735 hubs) then...

Also if you buy old wheels that have had the cassettes on a long time, expect issues.

They might be ok, but getting them off is 9 /10 hard. Ive junked several cassettes freeing them from hubs..including snapping teeth off!

I've had to grind a few off to save the hub sadly.

But if you assume its going to be a p.i.t.a. you might get lucky. But don't immediately think it will be a good outcome! 🤣

That's why I won't buy them, I'd prefer Shimano, better the devil you know, in my opinion, haha

It was one of the things that really put the nail in suntours coffin imho. I swapped to xc pro in 91, but chucked the hubs after 1 season to go back to xt as even fresh cassettes were had to get off.

The lack of float on there rear mechs also made people who were not fettlers annoyed (and mechanics who had to deal with the customers) as they went out of index far easier and a less slick change as no play.

Sad as suntour kit is better quality in terms of materials and engineering to shimano.

The Sun Tour pedals were my favorites from their inception. The main reason is the cartridge bearings. Heavier more abusive riders would break their axles. I think that I might have broken one. One company made replacement axles for them in Ti. If I remember correctly, it was McMahon.
