Hi all,

Bit of a long shot, but as per title looking for a U.S.E sub hub to fit their S.U.B lefty fork. Preferably in black however silver considered as it's to go on a gold fork.

As far as I'm aware the sub hub is the only hub compatible with these forks but if anyone knows otherwise, I'd be most interested to know and any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to view my request guys

Re:

Thanks for the prompt reply bud, Without sounding ungrateful for your assistance I was hoping not spend that sort of money as I can get a brand new one from U.S.E for £70 posted.

Re:

Thanks for advice bud 8)

I sent a pic of what I've got over to them last week to confirm which axle type the fork has as I understand they did a Cannondale lefty hub compatible version also. The price quoted was for everything hub related needed to make the fork operational.

I bought the fork as NOS and thankfully came with the adapters to build the wheel in a regular jig along with instructions, just not the hub itself!

They actually did 3 different stub axles, Cannondale hub, Goldtec hub & a limited edition version that where numbered ( I have no.3 of the LE version) these came in a champagne colour & used a Hope hub.

Re:

Thanks for heads up dude, Much appreciated!

Is there any chance you could possibly post a pic of your LE axle that utilises the Hope hub? I ask as mine are champagne/gold with silver crowns and number 18

Which hope did they use, as I guess it would be bulb era and if so, did they do an adapter or was it a special hub developed for the fork?

Here's mine

Photos are in the link, the USE Goldtec hub will not fit on the LE stub as the smaller bearing i.d. is to small, there isn't any model type on the Hope hub, both bearings in it are 6804rs with outer one sleeved to fit the reduced diameter of the stub, the spacer tube between the bearings may also be different, I haven't compared the 2 side by so I can't be sure the tapers are also different. .

Re:

Ok we'll this has thrown a real curve ball into the mix

It's safe to say I have the LE fork as it is identical to yours, Your's being 3 and mine being 18, so at the very least that's 10% of all production owned by RB'ers, Sweet! 8)

Speaking to Hope, the guy who'd been there for 20+ years has no recollection of making a special hub for USE and suspects they just bought some standard hubs (Most likely Bulbs) and machined some end caps to make them bolt on to the stubs.

Called USE and the tech guy swears they have never used Hope hubs and there have only ever been two fitments being USE Sub hub and C'Dale lefty, However after explaining findings so far he's gone away to check with a definite uncertainty to his voice! But to be fair, being over a decade later and only 20 sets it could easily be forgotten.

So, from what I understand looking at your photo's, the hub shells appear to be the standard bulb, I've removed the 20mm spacers on a bulb hub I have next to me and the bearings are the same spec as yours, so the only difference is the allen key end cap, Is it the same cap as used on the sub hub by any chance?

Looking at the fit when I put the bulb without end caps onto the forks, it is nicely snug at the fork leg side with the 30mm ring on the axle sitting flush with the bearing, then the axle tapers to approx 16mm leaving a 2mm gap around the circumference and is approx 15mm shorter than the the hub shell, suggesting a fairly deep recessed bolt that not only bolts into the hollow axle but sleeves over the top also?

Would it be possible to get a pic of the bolt on your Hope please bud, Sorry to be a pain

Photos in the link. It looks as though its a standard Hope hub with specific fittings made by USE, so what you need to fit that Bulb you have is, a sleeve to bring down the i.d. of the outer bearing (spacer tube isn't tapered), specific LE bolt, as this totally different to the standard Sub bolt (LE bolt is on the left in the photos) & a standard snap ring which has been shortened (standard is double wound, LE is single).
