Zaskar or Zaskar LE - What's the difference?

Hi, and apologies if this has been covered before (please point me in the right direction if it has!).

What is the difference between a Zaskar and a Zaskar LE (specifically a '96 model if that makes any odds)...?

I've just bought a 14.5" Zaskar/Zaskar LE (finally found a 14.5!!). It's stickered up as a Zaskar LE but is there any way of telling for certain? The decals are not originals.

It doesn't make any difference to me which one it is, as it's a lovely lovely frame which I very luckily stumbled upon when I was asking a Retrobike member about another frame which he had for sale! I'd just be interested to know for sure one way or the other. I thought that the LE had an integrated seat clamp as part of the frame - however I've since been told that this wasn't the case for all LE's...

Here's a picture of the frame, in case there are any visual clues:

Thanks :)

zaskar le came with xtr, zaskar came with xt, but i don't know if there where differances in the frames, i guess not

all zaskars sold as a frame only are badged as zaskar le.

Well, this one will (eventually) be built with M950 so I'll keep the LE decals ;)

There was a thread on this a while ago I seem to remember (month or so).

Anyway, think there was a difference in frames as I bought my '96 Zaskar LE as a frame, new. Also didn't have an integrated seat clamp. From memory, and I may be wrong, I think that the LE was a tad lighter than the standard Zaskar. There are a few GT specialists on here though who, without doubt, will be able to provide some more accurate answers than me! :)

This wasn't the case in the UK, although it may have varied over the years. I have seen adverts offering both frames, with the LE substantially more expensive than the standard Zaskar. I thought the LE was US-built?

I don't know how you tell them apart, but the serial number may be part of it.
