Help identifying possible Stumpy

Hi all,
Recently acquired another (!) bike - divorce papers arriving soon . Seller thought that it might be a 2000 Stumpjumper (red originally). Serial number under the BB: M5K00262. Another serial number on the head tube: BI 0771

Btw, are Marzocchi Bombers supposed to make a squelching noise when compressed? I've only owned coil and air forks..

Indeed. I don't think that it's a Stumpy at all. I can't remember any from that era with top pull front mechs or that type of canti guide.

M5 serial would suggest 1995 or 1996 to me. Serial number is unusual though (not a Specialized expert though).

Bombers are Year 2000 and will have that on the slider sticker. Could be where the confusion is coming from.

Squelchy bombers are normal - but fresh oil and a flush out should quieten them down

That's the head tube?
(Steerer tube is part of the fork)
