DT Swiss Onyx hubs - what year did they come out?

I’ve just fetched a donor bike which has come with a surprisingly nice set of wheels.

The guy said the whole bike was built in 1999/2000 which matches the Fork and groupset year. It all seems period correct even down to grips and tyres.

The wheels are X517 in red but on DT onyx in black - no disc.

What year did they come out ?

Nice wheels, I do like Onyx too.

The first listing i've found was in a buyers guide for the season 2000.

Showing the page for the Whizz-Wheels wheelsets, just because there was one page listing DT-Hügi and DT-Swiss wheels at the same page. The hubs alone had been covered in this buyers guide too.


Regular hubs and disc hubs had been introduced at the same time, also black and polish colors.
And if I not mistaken, also in the same year as the 240 hubs, but old Hügi had been still offered too, the only one in a nice yellow color variant.

Yes that’s correct. I emailed DT in the end and they confirmed it was 2000 but likely released the end of 1999.
