Ever heard of a bike called Bifrato? Vitus 979 dural

If the rear mech and front changer are Super record parts in good condition I would probably put it in the $400 to $500 USD range without knowledge of the rest of the components and function. Assuming there may be more SR parts (headset, bottom bracket assy, on it (the shifters are not...

Ever heard of a bike called Bifrato? Vitus 979 dural

I also have a couple Vitus 979 frames that are badged with small shop names. Very common; ALAN did the same thing with their aluminium frames, as did many other companies with steel frames. I will warn folks that getting these lugged alloy frames can be risky; especially larger ones which one...

    Unknown Italian brand "Cicli Bono"

I had looked that up earlier and did not give it much thought since was originally from the Lombardia region which quite a distance from Rome (Lazio) and old cyclists tended to set up shops in their old stomping grounds, but certainly would fit regarding his age (born in '36 so about 50 yrs old...

    1990 Brompton Mk2

An acquaintence has the bike and needs a BB assy. He says it is a JIS taper spindle. Does anyone know if they used JIS tapered spindles or if that is most likely a replacement that someone put in not realizing (or caring) about the difference between JIS and ISO taper length? Thank you!

    Unknown Italian brand "Cicli Bono"

I have a list of more than 1000 Italian marques and I did not find it. Surprising since it is not that old of a frame (mid 80ish). It could be that the frame was not actually built by "Bono". It may have been a shop that had their frames made and badged by a contract or independent builder, but...

Campagnolo self extracting bolt removal tool...

That was what I was referring to. I had a machine shop make me one for the lefthand application. I think I needed it for some Chorus/CdA cranks also.

    Beryl Burton's 1962 Bike Badge

Thanks to all for this interesting thread. A lot of information and details revealed that I was unaware of. A note regarding the maps previously mentioned. I have the Italian map and it is quite good, but still a lot of builders not shown as I have been years in trying to document Italian...

    Rapido Retro Bike (Help Please)

We might be able to tell the date from the components installed (if original). If it has a Sturmey-Archer hub, as mentioned earlier, there should be a date code on it (last 2 digits of year, and number of the month in which it was built; I do have a hub with date code 69 13, but I am unaware of...

    Long cage Super Record mech’

I agree with the assessment of Campagnolo inline derailleurs regarding performance post-Sun Tour's drop/offset/slant mechs. The Campagnolo inlines all essentially have the same performance from Gran Sport to C Record. My favorite "early" Campagnolo RD would be the Athena relating to better...

Campagnolo self extracting bolt removal tool...

It is a left hand thread tool. I have seen a couple aftermarket versions, but as you are learning they are not easy to find, and usually run (at least Camp ones) much higher in price than they should be. I think the last Camp one I saw was about $100 which is more than the crankset cost me.

How much is my road bike (or parts of) worth?

@cce I have an '84 Trek 660. Your bike seems substantially newer than 1982 given the decals. The main value is in the frame tubing used (my Trek is Reynolds 531CS tubing; kitted with Camp. Nuovo Record) and components. My bike is worth about $300-$400 (US market); but worth much more parted out...

    Rare Rossin Monoblock…

C4 is the company name not a model name. Knowing Rossin as an innovator, I would think that they created their own CF frames (Rossin shaped its steel tubes inhouse, e.g. Ghibli model). That paint is identical to a Rossin late 80s- early 90s (?) frame I have; surprised it was used for as long as...

Has anyone come across Scoop bikes?

I looked at the photos (which did not help much), and saw the Shimano "positron" shifter which was more of a mid 70s to mid 80s thing before Shimano introduced the "SIS" components. Not sure how long the "positron" system remained in use, but I believe it was still being used in the mid 80s at...

Has anyone come across Scoop bikes?

Never heard of them myself. Looks to be a lower to mid end roadster from the 80s, maybe 90s; but unknown what original components would have been. Any tubing decal might help tell origin and quality level. I think "SCOOP" is the model more than the brand, but it may also be a previous owner's...
