    another mystery frame

It's interesting that the front triangle is TIG welded while the stays are brazed on. The bottom bracket shell is unusual, but I don't recall seeing another one like it. Definitely NOT Columbus MAX: MAX had very recognisable tapered bi-ovalised tubes.

Wanted Bontrager Mustang ASYM rim(s). Surly stainless chainrings 94mm bcd.

Anyone got a NOS (or very good condition) Bontrager Mustang ASYM rim? 32h preferred, but I'd consider 36h and 40h too. I'm also looking for Surly 94mm bcd stainless steel chainrings. 30t - 35t. I'm in the UK.

Wanted Swap: My NOS XTR M950 32h front hub for your NOS XTR M950 36h front hub

As title. I have a NOS XTR M950 32h front hub. I'd like to swap it for the same (NOS only) in 36h. I'm in the UK and would prefer a UK swap if possible.

    Removing a Freehub

... or you could just install a cassette and use a chain whip to hold the cassette still. That gives you leverage to undo the freehub bolt.

    Removing a Freehub

If you hold the cassette body still and turn the freehub retaining bolt anticlockwise, you're putting an anticlockwise torque on the hub shell. That's the same as putting a clockwise torque on the cassette, the same as pedalling forwards. The freehub pawls stop the shell rotating. Now, if you...

    Specialized Rockhopper Age

I think it's a '95 in "Bronze Satin". Repacker is right: the V-brakes are a later addition. Here's a more original one, photographed from the business side.

BROOKS? I think you misspelt "Idéale"!

    Dawes Bike Identification Grame 531.

If this is a 531 main-tubes frame with cheaper fork and stays, it corresponds with the Jaguar and Echelon in the range, no? I tend to think it's one of those models from a different year. Parts and colours, and even lugs and crowns can change from one year to another. Just look at the wide range...

    Dawes Bike Identification Grame 531.

The Renown seems to have a 531 fork, so unless this one has lost its fork blade transfers, it can't be a Renown. Am I missing something? What makes you rule out the Jaguar and Echelon?

    Dawes Bike Identification Grame 531.

Okay, I googled up the ebay listing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265426509189 It's certainly not a Galaxy or a Lightning. The 531 sticker looks authentic, and identifies the frame as 531 butted main tubes only. The fork bend and clearances are a bit too sporty for a Galaxy, and the quality's a...

    Dawes Bike Identification Grame 531.

The Lightning did come in that "green sunburst" colour scheme, but I don't think that's one. My brother had a Lightning in about 1980 (in "burnt cherry") and the frame wasn't 531. It's true that 531 stickers can be bought, but that one looks original - or at least, like it's been there a long...

Vintage MTB "Seat Shifter" - ebay.co.uk

Having done a bit of googling, it looks like this was actually intended for triathlon and ultramarathon use, giving a forward aero position, and a selection of more relaxed positions for climbing. The shift lever would be installed on an aero bar. Here's one in situ...

Vintage MTB "Seat Shifter" - ebay.co.uk

New one on me! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175081922367 Looks like you can shift your seat fore and aft on the fly. Why? Why not?

2 mystery frames looking for an ID?

The first one: 631 didn't arrive until the 1990s, and with a narrow rear end, your frame must be from the 80s. 531ST would fit with the 27mm seatpost. The construction is much too nice for British Eagle, and most of the other big manufacturers. Look at those elegantly thinned lug points. My...
