American Pickers

Old Ned

Old School Grand Master
Anyone see last night's episode on Quest? They visited a guy whose parents owned a sports and cycle shop and, amongst other assorted items, purchased a very nice 'Raleigh International' finishded in a lime'ish flam green with chrome lugs, forks etc. Fitted out with Campag NR chainset and gears, Weinmann CP's and GB stem (and probably bars) it was in excellent condition. However, the head badge and lettering was definitely Raleigh but it also had a Carlton transfer on the seat tube. Was this a common feature on Raleighs sold in the US of A?

Re:

Hi, That International model they found features here in the 1970 USA catalogue https://www.sheldonbrown.com/retroralei ... g-1970.pdf
( all credits to Sheldon Brown archive, dont want to upset any cycling royalty ! ) .
It also has Carlton badges on top of the forks. The catalogue seems to refer to them being made in Raleigh`s Carlton factory. I guess carlton was pretty much an unknown brand in the USA then ?

Carltons badged as Raleigh's for the USA market often had a handbult by Carlton decal somewhere.
