Any one heard of Carless?

Re: Carless bikes

Hello! I realise this is a very old post but just wanted to say that Carless is my maiden name and G Carless was my Grandad who owned the bike shop in Crewe. It passed to my dad, Derek Carless and was run for many years until bikes went out of fashion and after the 80's recession. It was the family business of Grandad (Graham) and his brother Eric Carless who also had a shop.
I remember Dave Hinde as I was growing up, dad and him made frames and Dave particularly the wheels, my first Saturday job at the age of 4-5 years old was cleaning in between all the spokes of the new wheels, a job for tiny fingers!
I will show dad this post as he would really love to know that some bikes are still around. Dad moved on to four wheels and runs a garage and specialises in Motorsport with my brother. But still he's out on his bikes most weekends even though he's in his early 70's (he won't appreciate me telling you that!)
Any more bikes out there it would be lovely to hear about them!

Who handled the model railway side of the business?

Re:

This is directed to the granddaughter of the guy that started Carless cycles in Crewe.
I've just bought a Carless Time Trial frame on ebay, white, with chrome lugs and stays, will hopefully arrive soon. I'm going to rebuild and restore it with modern wheels and groupset but would like to find more info.

THATS A COOL FIND!! To be honest I didn't even realise the frames were still out there, as i know this was a really old thread. I'll show dad and see what info he can give you.

I'll also ask the name of the chap who did the models upstairs. I can see his face so clearly but cant remember his name! Although I was only about 6/7 years old when the shop closed.

That's a super frame Mick. I wonder who it was built for originally? Obviously someone who had very definite ideas about what they wanted!

Re:

It arrived today, I've cleaned it up with T cut, de rusted the chrome, I'm not going to spray it but I'm going to make some new decals as they are really bad if I can find a font similar and do it in waterside paper. It beautiful and so lightweight! 1850g.

Thank you to the two people that have replied to me, especially for the historical information. I have tried to personal message but contact button doesn't seem to work, maybe because I'm new to the forum.
