Kona Hot Serial Number List - update 18/03/24

hey al,

not sure if I’m too new or just too stupid to figure out how to pm you as I don’t want to clog up this thread, but am wondering if an old school 120 mm Race Face System would be TOO long for that frame. I forget what I had on my old ‘99 Explosif, but I don’t think it was that long & im def. not as supple as I used to be. thoughts?

What's interesting here is it doesn't have triangle cut drop outs. In fact, it's the oldest example we have on file with solid drop outs which begs the question, how and why? It also has 1994 decals which given the SN, is curious given the age and placement within the 1993 range. Was this, early on, reworked or and resprayed? Was it a demo bike? Who knows...but please speculate!

TET 301 - 19" 1993 Cherry Red - No triangle cut-out Dropout. 1994 Decals.

I thought it might be interesting to speculate what the approximate total frame productions runs were for each model year (not the total made per calendar year). This is based off what's been confirmed, and looking at the SNs, estimating the total since for the most part, the SNs are sequential.

The first number at the confirmed, identified frames, the second number an estimate on the total produced for that model year.

1991 - 10, c150
1992 - 3, c50
1993 - 49, c1,130
1994 - 29, c680
1995 - 1, c150
1996 - 12, c300
1997 - 8, c150
1998 - 12, c100

Total - 124, c2,710

The totals for Tom's production years are almost certainly too high as he was making frames for others if my memory serves me right. So perhaps we reduce by half, or maybe more. What's clear is 1993 was the peak year for production.
