Malverns classic 2022 aftermath

Great pics guys thanks. And another like for the Peace of Pace shirt

Ah, is this the moan and shine thread? Boy there were some knarked individuals 😉

To be fair, the title of the show doesn't reflect the entries or the winners.

The Pace trials bike won, pink 24“ Cannondale second, and the "sympathy vote" came third (as heard more than once).

Controversial.

There were definitely a lot of heavy hitting bikes there, including at least a couple of recent BOTM contenders or winners..

I feel better about my roof rack disaster and turning up with zero entries now.

Sadly true I'm afraid. A little perspective was needed by some folks (getting wound up over a free competition is a real problem right?!?) and, in my view, a little more clarity on the entry and adjudication process would better set expectations of said knarked.

What happened with the roofrack? Or should I not ask?

Don’t worry. A roof rack full of Fats didn’t slide off at 80mph on the motorway! That would have been a huge Shock-a to drivers behind me 😊

I was fitting a roof rack from a former car to my current one. Naturally I had double checked that I had all the correct parts to attach the rack to the car. I’m careful like that. Should just be a 15 min job then. No need to fit it any earlier than late afternoon on Saturday. Plenty of time for my 6am start for Ledbury the next morning.

So. Yeah.

Basically I omitted to acquire a particular part. Not an important part, you understand. Just the little feet that attach the rack to the points on the roof. Easy mistake to make. Entirely outside my control. No matter - the local Halfords should sort me out. Except… the part I needed wasn’t on the shop floor, so I would need to speak to one of their in-store “specialists”. And it was a 30-40 min wait. Goes without saying that the store was all but empty. So I left.

Part ordered on line. Should be here by Tuesday.

In order to avoid a similar mishap befalling me next year I have diarised half an hour around 5pm on Saturday 26 August ‘23, for installing the rack. Should leave me plenty of time for my 6am Sunday start.

Hey. What can I say. Those retro types.. They do take these things very seriously.

You know the way a couple of octogenarians make headlines now and again for having an undignified punch up at the village fete over the size of their marrows?

Well. That’s our future, boys.

Oh geez what happened

Oh geez what happened

It's alluded to within this thread and shouldn't distract from what was a great event.

Take a look at the title "Show and shine", the rules, then look at the top 3 followed by the entries in the tent. With a broad church, and wide remit, coupled with no categorisations, some individuals were disappointed their show-room wall hangers didn't make the cut whilst some well-used "not shiny" bikes did, and couldn't help express that in a negative way (not me by the way, I picked up my bike and left the toxic atmosphere).

The quality of some of the bikes was off the scale; truly brilliant and awe inspiring 👌
