1992 Rocky Mountain Vertex (steel) Build

This may take a while to get 'right' and in the mean time I may have to compromise with a few parts to get it rolling (I've got various mis-matched cantilever brakes for a start!) but here's a few pics of the beginning of my '92 Vertex build:

I got the frame in a trade, and all the parts so far have come off old bikes, so other than the stem I've not spent any cash on the bike. I could just throw a load of money at the bike but I find it more fun to find other ways of doing it. I don't have a firm direction for the build for the above reasons, but unless I end up relenting and buying a 27.0 Thomson post, it'll all be old school and fairly subtle.

looks like you have a nice clean frame and fork to start with. can't ask for much more. pictures look a bit on the dark side. how's the paint on it? many scratches?
any ideas on what you'd like to do for wheels? pick up a donor bike cheap on craigslist. that works.

Hi, yes I took the photos on my phone in a dark garage so not ideal. I'd describe the paint as 'OK'. It's a really good coating though so maybe some T-Cut or whatever it's called over here will help.

I'm not sure about wheels. I have various Shimano hubs but none that match other than a pair of STX RC. I could go 'weird' and go with an Underground front hub and Shimano Silent Clutch rear hub but like you suggested, I might wait for more CLs or deals through the shop to come my way. I've got the NOS Araya RM 395 Team rims that are currently in the For Sale forum due to being 28 hole. I'd love to use those but I can't imagine picking up matching old school 28 hole hubs any time soon!

I know of a Syncros (BITD) hub at a local bike shop that would fit well with this build! !

Syncros would be rad but I'm not going to enter a bidding war (ha ha)! Maybe I'll hang back and see what comes my way.
