Bent derailleur hanger question

Anybody have a method for straightening a derailleur hanger that needs to be pulled back (away from the front of the bike)? I can't get the rear wheel into the dropouts (which are steel) because the hanger is bent forward.

I tried a Park alignment tool but that really only works for straightening the lateral position of the hanger.

adjustable spanner opened to the thickness of the droput, normally about 5 mm) insert it into the dropout, then lever the frame open. simples. worth checking the alignment with the park tool afterwards.

.

I had to do this once. I used a short section of tube which I flattened, with a piece of 5mm plate inside, in a vice. This should fit snuggly over the bottom of the hanger. Slide it on and pull towards the rear of the frame, hopefully the hanger should start to straighten before the tube pulls of the end of the hanger. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I tried to do something similar with a piece of pvc pipe but it flexed too much. I'll give these suggestions a shot.

Yep. Slow steady pressure with an adjustable spanner has sorted a fair few steel frames over the years for me.
