Quill Stem Help

Morning.

I'm trying to set my Cannondale up to be a bit more comfortable for me. Currently the stem is a little too long, so I'm looking for a shorter one.

1. Does anyone know of a short stem, like the one below, but with a centre hole for cantilever brakes?

2. Also, with a shorter reach, will this mean that the rise will be lower?

The bike in question;

Thanks in advance!

Re:

You don't see so many stems with a built in hole/guide or roller for cantilever brakes now. However, you can use a separate bracket for the cantilever cable stop: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brake-spares-cable-hangers/. If you have enough space on the steerer you can use one that goes between the headset cup and the locknut, if not you can use one that fits to the forks, like this:

With a shorter reach, obviously, given two stems with a similar angle between the steerer part and the stem part, the rise will be less on the shorter reach stem. However you can offset this by setting the stem higher in the steerer tube as long as you don't set it higher than the minimum insertion marks. You can get some extra tall quill stems, but they tend not to be the prettiest or lightest things: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/search/?term=quill stem

Thanks to you both, I had completely forgotten about the headset cable guides you used to see so often!

Just need to find a stem now that is 25.4 and the right length / rise.
