What estate car?!

the galaxy sounds like a decent suggestion.

toyota lucida?

what about a van? t4 transporter? transit?

Another +1 for the 98-05 Passat. Huge boot and not that thirsty. Mine's only done 45K so another 15 years at least ahead of it. Which is handy as I can't afford to change it until then. The problem with the Golf/Octavia estates is that the wheel arches protrude a fair way in.

E class W124. Prperly designed, simple Retro estate.

Heres a cheapy:

I bought a 1989 one with no rust, history and only 70k for under £1500. Doesn't miss a beat, started first time during the -12 weather and the classic insurance and n depreciation offsets poor fuel. If you are doing big mileages then a diesel would be worth the extra outlay.

later models are far better on fuel but can rust like a 70s Fiat

the later E220 saloon would get up to 38mpg, on lpg though they will only do around 25.

I'd love a 300TD

off topic alert!

incidently you can get four bodies in the boot of a W126 and four people on the back seat.

1st generation 500SE will do around 30mpg on long runs due to the gearing, later 2nd generation changed the ratios.

sorry but 8 year old (diesel) Mondeo - 2 things, expensive things, common things:

dual mass flywheel

rear suspension bushes

both expensive and a pain, kits are available at a cheaper cost but, owning one, never again.

...and what is that behind the first Merc???? Aye????

3rd generation Mondeo estate - even more bloody expensive to fix! Engine coded parts mean things like injection pumps - aaaaaaaagghhhh!
