    The British bike thread

Hadn't heard of 'maes stratalite', I presumed 'maes' was something to do with GB, but nope it's Strata: https://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/classic_components/the-strata-engineering-company/ Which was around at about the same time. Apparently (Ebay) maes stratalite was about 37cm ctc (14.6")...

    Campagnolo derailleur jockey wheel compatibility

I replaced the jockey wheels on my SunTour Cyclone II a couple of years back (10 teeth) - I run them on 2x7 and 2x6 at the moment. Here's my original thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vintage/1255815-suntour-jockey-wheel-upgrade-bbb-rollerboys-bdp-01-a.html I did have to add a couple of...

    The British bike thread

Crossposting from Bikeforums.net because it's a nice article. Helped me out a bit when I was trying to create Holdsworth Red Pearl for my 1961 Cyclone. Also asked Mario Vaz - he said Red Pearl arrived in huge drums from Switzerland, so no idea how to mix it :(. A Visit to Holdsworthy Ltd...

    1940s Holdsworth 56cm

1940s Holdsworth (probably), but no idea what model, and it's £25 so far. Also covered in black sh*t. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/355675983010 From https://www.nkilgariff.com/Models.htm Pre WW2 all Holdsworths had clip type headsets except L'Internationale. This model was new for 1939 and had...

1958 Holdsworth Zephyr 54.5cm track frame

Yep, just looked it up and apparently the Zephyr and Cyclone are the same lugs by 1961. So this windowed version only existed from 58 - 61. 1961 Cyclone:

    Retro/Classic brakes for a tour.

I had a similar issue - the head tube on my Holdsworth Cyclone is quite short so a hanger would have obscured the badge. Resorted to the old trick of drilling the stem: NB. the stem is hollow so there's 2 holes that meet 1) Top surface perpendicular to be threaded and take the adjuster 2)...

    Retro/Classic brakes for a tour.

I've been using 60's Mafac Racer center pulls recently, working fine with Kool Stop salmon pads. Mainly used from the hoods and I can stop from there using 2 fingers each side. Might help that I'm using 80's Weinmann AG drilled levers and modern cables. Sheldon Brown: "Mafac calipers provide as...
