Wax or oil ?

Okay, I finally got a new chain for my GT as the skipping gears got way too much so I have a KMC Z51, a chain I know is pretty good as I had a few, but I have been wondering about lubrication and the fact that oil on chains picks up grinding material, so what about chain wax like many a motorcycle chain.

Anyone use chain wax as opposed to oil on their chain and what do you think ?

And yes I know my chain was so bad, I need to really replace the lot, but that is planned already, the next purchase is the rear cassette then it is the hunt for front rings although I suspect it will be a replacement chainset as my chainset was subject to Shimano recall that never happened, something about it being weak, but it's not broken yet, but then I am not a heavy rider and am careful about picking my route.

if you use an oil that evaporates and leaves a teflon coating it shouldnt pick up much muck, although invest in a chain cleaner and actually use it. well worth the effort. i used to clean my chain once a week and dismantle the cogs off the cassette and rag them once a month. motorcycle chain lube is probably a bit thick and will probably start gunging up the jockeys.

Lots of bikers use a scottoiler which is contantly lubeing the chain. Think chain wax is an older thing. My dad used to have a tin of it but he only used it on classic/vintage bikes.

Muc-off Ceramic is better than any oil I have tried to date and I've tried a lot. Next best was Finish Line's ceramic type oil but I've not seen that for a while.

Wax-type lubes tend to flake off on longer rides. Wet lubes get too gunky and dry lubes are not hard wearing enough.

Wax in summer
Oil in winter

Either lube-After use clean it off the outside of the chain and dont skimp on the job, lube is for the inside only, the more crud sticks to it the more of a grinding paste you have working to prematurely wear out the drivetrain :?
