Retrobike Rides have now been going strong for many years. They have evolved from a couple of dodgy looking characters meeting in the woods to ride their retro pride and joys to groups of up to 40 enthusiasts meeting up to enjoy their bikes, company and trails. In doing so a friendly atmosphere has been created and good riding manners developed, giving Retrobike Rides unique qualities and banter. As always with Retrobike Rides, everyone is welcome and made to feel welcome. All abilities are catered for with the rule being we only get round as fast as the slowest person, with short cuts and chicken runs being planned into the routes. If this appeals to you, please come and join in at one of our National or Local events. Click here...
Sunday saw Retrobike take on the 27th running of the Hell of The North Cotswolds, a 100km (or 50km if you'd rather) reliability trial around the bridleways and lanes surrounding Winchcombe. Click here for the Retrobike HONC aftermath thread. Here is a (very personal) record of the day: - arrived late. faffed. Met precious few Retrobikers at the start bar Gravymonster and CAS. - the start was carnage and despite waiting for a while before going through the gate from the school still got caught up in track standing on the first 'hill' - passed Jon Herring who explained that he was riding a modern Orange due to a bad back. I explained that it was less bad back, more a lack of spine and rode on. - the first 'half' of the longer...
Another weekend and another car park in a forest. Saturday saw forty plus Retrobikers meet up at Cannock Chase for the Rearranged First Round of the Retrobike National Events Series with support from Bikefood - The Cannock Cupid's Arrow (formerly Turkey Twizzler). Once again a great collection of top quality metal was on display, everything from a 80s Saracen to a Chameleon Fat Chance of dubious provenance. An enjoyable day's riding was had by all, click here for full aftermath report. The next round will be taking place in the Forest of Dean on May 14th, we will also be riding at the HoNC on April 12th.
A ride moved because of ice conditions. The new route guide came up with a 13 mile loop but then was injured in the line of brake maintenance and couldn't attend. Monumental journeys for some of the participants from Northumberland and Wick. Would we all get there on time. Would we find our way without a guide. Would we manage the 1000ft accent from the Soldiers Leap. Would our bawbags be baltic, find out here....

Following discussion, we've very reluctantly taken the decision to POSTPONE the ride next Monday and give as much notice as possible so that people could alter their plans. This was not an easy decision to arrive at as the Turkey Twizzler is a very well established and attended event. Although we recognise that weather forecasts are often unreliable, Cannock is supposed to have 4 inches of snow on Monday and never be above freezing between now and then so the riding could be a challenge but it was the getting there and back, with some people travelling vast distances, that was the key concern. We're hoping to arrange a slightly surreal festive Turkey Twizzler in February, date to be confirmed. Ok, off to cancel the caterers...

It was a crisp and cool autumnal morning as I arrived at the Woodbine Cafe in Hope shortly after 9am. At first I didn't recognise Mr K sat outside in the sunshine sipping on a cinnamon semi latte, despite his fluorescent pink roadie cap and Afghan scarf/cravat. Flicking through a low budget fixie fanzine he nonchalantly acknowledged my arrival as I tripped over his polo mallet. His breakfast arrived shortly afterwards along with a growing assortment of chaps wheeling with them an assortment of old bikes. From dipped in glitter disco Konas, to effortlessly well assembled Fats, Paces and DeKerfs and all the way through to John and his 89 Raleigh Mirage. Mr K was particularly cutting in his analysis of the rear centre ridged Cheng Shin...

A great ride was had by all on Saturday's Herefordshire Road Ride AKA The Welsh Borders Grimpeur. The full aftermath can be found here. A few highlights - Top selection of old steel (and it was only old steel) with The Guvnor on an early 90s EM Corsa Extra, Del on an early 80s Colnago Master, Dave on a mid 80s Colnago Master, the Alex's on an 81 Bianchi and a 1990 Harry Quinn respectively and Ed on a relatively modern on a 1991 Zullo. - Bike of the day has to go to Alex's stunning Bianchi with just the right amount of pantographed kit and to top it off he was riding tubs. Chapeau, mon ami. - Sandwich of the day goes to The Guvnor's 'pound of cheese in a loaf sawn in half' lunchtime snack - Del riding a classic Italian bike in a...
Get your old road irons polished up, shave your legs and don your Bolles as we're running a Retro Road Ride (AKA The Welsh Borders Grimpeur) on Saturday 24th July. What does it involve, I hear you cry? A stunning, scenic and undulating Sportive style 90 km ride on very quiet country roads with a country pub lunch/stop. There's plenty of climbing but nothing super steep so with a compact and a bit of fitness all should be fine. Where is it happening? The ride will start and finish in Hampton Bishop, just outside of the cathedral city of Hereford. For more details and to register last minute interest click here and we'll add a list of attendees.
