BoTM Bike of The Month September 2025 - now taking entries

I guess the grey area is… “is BOTM best story or physically the best bike?” and is it the mix that’s important? It’s for the rest of us to choose to dive in to the details or simply marvel in the metal bits. Seems to police itself fairly well. Nudges graciously accepted. 😉 Either way, there’s...

    "Redemption Build" Orange P7

That’s a rather awesome build yourself sir! It’s like the evil (good?) twin to mine. Yeah… XTR vs XT. I had that mental battle. I wanted to make sure I stuck to what I remembered I had in the 1990s and to avoid spec-creep. Ok, I allowed a bit of that, but, well, you know. That said, having...

    "Redemption Build" Orange P7

Aaah thanks chap. Appreciate that. It’s been sat rent free in my head for 20 years. Draining my wallet for the last 5 and been a pleasure to slow-build for the last month. Very cathartic. I’ve really enjoyed the process and the occasional drama finding the parts. Glad you liked it too. 🫡

lol. I was waiting for someone to call me out on that. I’m so pleased with them I didn’t want to hide them on the other side for the photo. 😂 Normal service will resume shortly.

    Anodising - Pace Crown ….

Maybe text him as emails these days seem a bit optional? I think I just rang him initially.

    Anodising - Pace Crown ….

I had mine done a few months back. I think it’s a “if work’s a bit slow at the moment, I’ll pop it in with another commercial batch” kinda deal. May be wrong, but may also be timing. The website mentions a minimum budget, but still took in my random job.

    Anodising - Pace Crown ….

Yes. Give Steve a nudge at Acorn Plating. +44 7950 236241 https://www.acornplating.com/ [email protected] He did my Syncros cranks. Couldn’t be more pleased with the service and finish. https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/anodising-syncros-cranks.489385/#post-3685568 Happy to elaborate if...

    1994 Orange P7…..black finish?

Dunno if you finished your black P7 but I’ve just matt black powdercoated mine. I had one back in the day and wanted to recreate it. Turned out nice. Could be useful ref or for comparison. If you did build yours, got any pics? https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/redemption-build-orange-p7.497287/

    "Redemption Build" Orange P7

Yeah, I was under a strict self-set “black everything” brief. I knew I would end up adding a colour! Damnit. Anodising was via Steven at Acorn Plating www.acornplating.com near Sandhurst. Cost was £40 plus post. Powdercoat was local to me in Leighton Buzzard. Bloke in a unit on a farm setup...

    "Redemption Build" Orange P7

Now I just have to pluck up the courage to remove the masking tape protecting the QR surfaces, add some bottle bolts, give it a ride to see if the wheels were as bad as I remembered. Thanks to everyone who parted with their retro goodies and entertained my random ramblings on DMs. It's been...

    "Redemption Build" Orange P7

To take the fork legs to the powder coaters, I had to remove the leg top caps. They weren't having it and seemed quite brittle. I eventually took the advice of @RockiMtn, drilled a hole and pulled them out. Like so... To seal up the hole afterwards, I heated up some black 3D printing filament...
